ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

For Shannon Loy, founder, CEO, and The Social Ginger’s namesake, social media is about far more than just platforms and posts. When used the right way, it’s an incredibly powerful marketing and relationship-building tool.

As Shannon learned first-hand, social media gives businesses a way to connect with their community, expand interest, receive referrals, generate leads, and, ultimately, close sales. But social media wasn’t always the game for Shannon. So how did this lifelong musician, eight-year fire rescue veteran, and bootstrapping small business owner end up an enthusiastic entrepreneur and exceptional social media educator? By following her passion, of course.

In January 2015, Shannon became PR director for The Tin Pan, a brand-new, live music venue in Richmond, Virginia. Though she was excited about the opportunity to support local musicians, Shannon had her work cut out for her. As a new business, The Tin Pan had no online presence, no following, and an urgent need to get people in the door. To succeed in her PR role and achieve her goals, Shannon needed an accessible, low-cost marketing option – a way to share The Tin Pan and their local musicians with the community without breaking the bank. She turned to social media, and the longer she stuck with it, the more her efforts played out. Awareness began to grow, and, in a surprisingly short period of time, The Tin Pan became a cornerstone of the RVA music scene.

Realizing she was onto something, Shannon founded The Social Ginger in December 2015, less than a year after her social media journey with The Tin Pan began. In the years since, she and her team have served over 80 clients, a number of whom are serviced-based businesses as well as local artists, musicians, speakers, coaches, and creatives.

When she’s not guiding clients and building online relationships, you’ll likely find Shannon speaking from stage, a place she finds comfortable after so many years of musical performance. With her unique combination of outgoing energy, technical knowledge, and passion for educating, it’s no wonder Shannon is a highly sought-after speaker for associations and conferences. Her social media training sessions, workshops, and events, hosted by TSG, sell out quickly, attracting individuals, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, and businesses from a variety of industries.

With her authentic desire to see others succeed at building something they’re passionate about, it’s no surprise Shannon has also actively supported her local community through volunteer work with organizations such as local non-profit ART 180. She also continues to expand her circle of connections as a member of Retail Merchants Association, the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce, Midlothian Business Alliance, and several other business networking organizations.
